Preparing for a video consultation

Preparing for online consultation is similar in many ways to in-person appointments, but from any location you choose (though we hope it’s a quiet one).

Consultants are very busy professionals; we, therefore, ask you to gently follow a few guidelines to ensure the appointment runs smoothly and you get the most out of the consultation!

  1. Be punctual. Our consultants have packed schedules, one patient running late has a knock-on effect for later appointments. Please be mindful of other patients and be ready for the consultant at the agreed time.

  2. Stable internet connection. Weak connections which cannot support a video call will result in the appointment being unworkable. We suggest being connected to WiFi if possible.

  3. Check device functionality. As MyConsultant is a video conferencing app, please ensure the mic and camera on your device is functioning correctly.

  4. Quiet environment. Similar to attending a doctor’s appointment in person, we require a calm environment to give you our undivided attention and resolve your problems quickly and efficiently. Your safety will always be our top priority. A noisy or distracting environment can compromise the consultation.

  5. Provide medical history. Prior to any consultation, make sure to complete your personal profile on MyConsultant with accurate, up to date information. A complete profile is of paramount importance, giving the consultant relevant information to provide the best possible care.

  6. Prepare your questions. To obtain maximum value per consultation, be prepared with any questions you would like to ask.

  7. Please have your phone on “Do Not Disturb” to prevent any interruptions to the consultation.

It may be useful at the end of the consultation to recap the session and the consultant will ensure you understand. If you require written advice or a recommendation from the consultant, there is an option at the end of the call.

At MyConsultant we are here to enhance patient care and in turn, their lives. Patient safety will always be our top priority, we, therefore, must take steps to ensure our platform puts patients first. Failure to follow the above guidelines can result in patient safety being compromised.
